Ryosuke Kawahira started his career as a gallery UG exclusive artist in 2019. The scary dreams and horror movies he had as a child, and the imaginary ghosts and landscapes that come from them. These were great traumas for Kawahira in his childhood, and he was often too scared to go to the bathroom at night, and often wet himself. He says that bed-wetting may be the only act in which people can leave traces of their dreams. In 2019 expand abroad, starting with an exhibition in Berlin. In 2022, he participated for the first time in an art fair in Taiwan, where he attracted attention for his highly original works. In 2023, he had a successful solo exhibition at Ginza Tsutaya Books. Today, he focuses on creating canvas works and is highly regarded for his colorful expression by characterizing underpants. 「As a child I used to wet the bed. I was attacked in my dreams by monsters and ghosts from films and cartoons. When I woke up in the middle of the night, I felt as if something was still lurking in the dark corner of the room, and I was too scared to go to the toilet. In the morning, when I was washing my wet underpant, I once apologized to my underpant, saying 'I'm sorry' because I felt guilty for some reason. I wonder what bed-wetting underpants think when they are being washed. If underpants had a will, they would be very angry at being soiled by bed-wetting. If underpants appeared in my dreams, they might come to my side when I am frightened and ask me what the cause is. If underpants beat the bed-wetting monster, I might be able to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. 」(Ryosuke Kawahira)
